A Hawk and A Dove
I am free of the chains of my past, and so are you, if you want to be. I've never met anyone so kind who didn't have a difficult story to tell. Don't be afraid to share yours - because it may change someone's life.
In a sentence, I know I have a long way to go before I am a perfectly enlightened, strong, and well-rounded individual.
If I were already thus, I would not have been incarnated into this life. Perhaps it will take hundreds more lifetimes before I reach that level of goodness and holiness and purity.
What I know is that I have a knack for choosing fear, and it's been a hard battle learning how to choose love instead.
Life is all about balance. We're given weaknesses and forced to deal with them so we can find our strengths. Sometimes it takes a whole lifetime to put a bandaid on a pinprick. Sometimes we're shot with a thousand arrows and still moving forward, bleeding but alive. It's not about how much hardship you've had, or if it's worse than anyone else's... it's about what you do with those hardships and how you transform them to help others.
In a way, the Campaign was born out of a youthful and naive desire to change the world. I used to think, angrily, why can't people see what's really going on? How can I get them to wake up? I was acting, back then, as a hawk, not a dove. Perhaps I still am today. I'm working on it.
The only peaceful solution I could give was to take this gift I had, this little small-town treasure of art and storytelling, and make it accessible to anyone who needed it, by eliminating money from the equation.
Is it successful? I don't know, really. I think the idea resonates with people, yet I am always asked, "What do you want this to become?"
I think the Free Art Campaign is the seed of a tree I am planting whose shade I may never sit in. I think if I can keep teaching art and encouraging people to think creatively and generously, perhaps I will be able to shed a new light on a few people's lives, and encourage them to look at the world differently. They, in turn, will share their light with a few more people's lives. New ideas will hatch, the seeds will grow, and soon we will be eight billion divine and powerful creators, working together to create unity, harmony, and peace.
A candle doesn't lose any brightness by lighting another candle. So, share your heART.
